If lemon zest powder is like a ray of sunshine, a citrus blend powder is the whole sunny sky — vibrant, colorful, and bursting with flavor from lemon, lime, and orange.
This all-purpose powder adds a bright lift to sweet and savory dishes, and it’s gorgeous in the jar.
You can use it in baked goods, marinades, cocktails, teas, and seasoning blends like our Citrus Chili Salt.

Step 1 — Choose Your Citrus
- Lemon for tangy brightness.
- Lime for a sharp, zesty edge.
- Orange for sweet, aromatic depth.
- Choose organic fruit whenever possible since you’re using the outer peel.
Step 2 — Zest Without the Pith
- Use a microplane, fine grater, or vegetable peeler to remove just the colored outer peel.
- Avoid the white pith — it’s bitter and will dull the flavor.
Step 3 — Dry the Zest
Freeze-Dry Method (Best for Color & Flavor)
- Spread lemon, lime, and orange zest separately on freeze dryer trays.
- Freeze dry until completely crisp — the zest should snap cleanly when bent.
Dehydrator Method
- Spread zest on dehydrator sheets.
- Dry at 95–105°F (35–40°C) until brittle — usually 6–8 hours.
Oven Method
- Spread zest on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Dry in the oven at the lowest temp with the door slightly cracked until crisp (1–3 hours).

Step 4 — Grind & Blend
- Once zest is completely dry, cool to room temperature to prevent condensation.
- Grind each citrus type separately in a spice grinder or high-speed blender until fine.
- Sift if desired for a smoother texture.
- Combine in a jar at your preferred ratio — a good starting point is:
- 2 parts lemon powder
- 1 part lime powder
- 1 part orange powder
Step 5 — Store for Freshness
- Keep in an airtight jar away from heat and sunlight.
- Freeze-dried version: lasts up to 12 months; dehydrated version: best within 6 months.
- Add a pinch of citric acid to boost tang and preserve flavor longer.
Ways to Use Citrus Blend Powder:
- Mix into sugar for citrus baking or tea sweeteners.
- Sprinkle over grilled fish, chicken, or vegetables.
- Stir into vinaigrettes or marinades for instant brightness.
- Use as a cocktail garnish or glass rimmer.
- Add to yogurt, smoothies, or oatmeal for a morning flavor boost.
Citrus blend powder is one of those simple pantry staples that feels like a luxury.
It brings summer flavor to your kitchen year-round — and it’s endlessly adaptable.
